Chippewa Boots - Chippewa Falls, WI

In 1901, Chippewa Boots started as a small boot-making operation in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Not unlike Red Wing Shoes in neighboring Minnesota, Chippewa was founded to provide durable work boots for loggers and other forestry workers in America’s upper Midwest.

Decades later, having survived two World Wars and benefitted from advancement in manufacturing, Chippewa continues to produce several lines of their boots in Chippewa Falls, and are considered one of a handful of surviving heritage bootmakers in the United States.

Though they source some of their materials internationally, Chippewa is widely considered a Made in USA brand, though after being acquired by Justin Companies in 1984 and, subsequently, Berkshire Hathaway in 2000, they have moved several product lines overseas for production.

When shopping for a pair of Chippewa boots, make sure you look under product details to determine whether the pair you’re eyeing was Made in USA. Similar to Red Wing boots, most of Chippewa’s modern work boots are manufactured overseas, though their classic styles or “heritage” lines of boots are manufactured in the United States.
